Potential slowdown in photo mode.

This release contains a regression that causes slower scans when in photo mode. Video source is not affected.

We're working on a fix for this issue.

This release moves BlinkID Web to v8003.0.0, and BlinkID Android and BlinkID iOS to v8002.0.0.

What's new​

  • Simplified integration & settings presets

    • We've introduced an intuitive presets system to replace complex scanning flags, allowing developers to configure BlinkID for specific use cases with minimal code:
      • Targeted presets: Instantly optimize the SDK for image, video, standalone barcode, or verification workflows.
      • Performance tuning: Fine-tune extraction with single-setting adjustments for quality (balanced, high speed, or high accuracy) and operational environment (stationary vs. handheld).

  • Global barcode & document expansion

    • Upgraded barcode & QR engine: Core scanning architecture upgrades deliver faster and more resilient recognition across 1D and 2D barcodes.
    • Expanded document support: Added dedicated barcode and QR parsing for Argentina DNI and Philippines IDs.

Bug fixes​

  • Passport card scanning flow: Fixed an issue where the scanning workflow would occasionally skip the back side of passport cards.
  • Single image mode cropping: Resolved edge cases in single image mode where document crop detection could fail or return inaccurate bounds.
  • Centenarian date logic: Solved two-digit birth-year rollover edge cases in MRZ and date parsing, ensuring precise age calculation for individuals aged 100+.

New default redactions​

The following document/field combinations are now redacted by default, and you must explicitly unredact if you wish to maintain previous behavior:

  • Netherlands, passport: personal ID number, including on the QR code
  • Spain, identity card and passport: personal ID number, MRZ
  • France, identity card: document number, MRZ
  • Hong Kong, driver's license: document number
  • India, identity card: document number

API changes​

This release includes one breaking change: the British Virgin Islands country identifier has been renamed from "Virgin Islands, British" to "British Virgin Islands".

The settings presets described above are exposed as four factories on the session settings, each returning a fully configured settings object:

  • Document video: live document scanning from a camera stream.
  • Document photo: document scanning from a single photo or gallery image.
  • Standalone barcode: barcode scanning without document detection.
  • Verify capture: BlinkID Verify live capture, with face image extraction and input and barcode image return enabled, and result aggregation disabled.

The document video and document photo presets accept an optional use case object with these settings:

  • Scenario: which parts of the document are read.
    • General (default): standard ID scanning.
    • MRZ mandatory: the scan only completes if an MRZ is present; VIZ and barcode are still read.
    • MRZ only: single-side scan that reads only the MRZ.
    • Barcode only: single-side scan that reads only the barcode of a detected document. Unlike the standalone barcode preset, document detection stays enabled.
  • Quality profile: how strict frame and image quality checks are.
    • Balanced (default).
    • High speed (video only): accepts the fastest acceptable frame and is less sensitive to blur, glare, and tilt.
    • High accuracy: raises quality thresholds and requires a face image.
    • Permissive: lowers quality thresholds and disables most quality-based rejection.
  • Capture environment (video only): hand-held (default) or stationary. Stationary allows the document to reach the edge of the frame.

Other additions:

  • New result fields: vehicleNumber, passportNumber, and trafficParticipantNumber.
  • New document types: Specified Residence Card, Golden Card, Vehicle Ownership Certificate, and BYID Card (Canada, Ontario).
  • New region: Northern Ireland.
