# Reduce latency

The Verify API processing is fast, however image uploads and downloads can take some time.
Use the following techniques to reduce latency:

1. Use the Verify SDK instead of direct API calls.
   The [Verify SDK](./sdk.md) automatically applies all possible image optimizations before sending requests.
2. Return only the images you need.
   All image returns are off by default, so enable only the ones you actually use.
   See [returning images](./configuration.md#returning-images).
   Every returned image increases the size of the response.
3. Compress and resize images.
   If you're not using the Verify SDK, compress and resize images before uploading.
   Follow [the image requirements](./image-requirements.md) when doing so.
4. Disable checks you don't need.
   For example, if you accept photocopies, set `photocopySensitivity` to `Disabled`.
